Vintage mid century Japanese hexagonal bamboo butterfly tray
Vintage mid century Japanese hexagonal bamboo and rice paper butterfly serving appetiser or drinks tray
Beautiful fine bamboo tray in soft edged hexagonal shape with fold down handles for the table. I love the pattern on the bottom of the tray- it consists of a centre panel of white rice paper and on top of that a pattern made from a real fern leaf, a real butterfly and rice paper threads. They are sandwiched between two sheets of glass - the bottom one is textured and the top one is plain glass. Forever beautiful and hardy at the same time! Set off nicely by an edge of very fine bamboo sticks with black lacquer edge at the top and two bamboo handles which fold down the side when it is on the table. Very useful and pretty tray.
In excellent vintage condition - the very fine rungs of bamboo on the sides are intact, and very clean, the handles work well, glass is clean and clear. The black lacquer edge has minor some chips in it- and a repaired small crack -nothing a little black paint wont fix. The picture itself is excellent and clear. The butterfly perfect.
11 1/2" (29cm) wide X 2" (5cm) deep. The centre round panel tray bit is 18cm (7") in diameter.
